La "Esmeralda" sigue cumpliendo con honor y eficacia su importante misión de completar la formación de los Oficiales y Marineros de nuestra Institución, recién egresados de sus respectivas Escuelas Matrices, templando su espíritu en la indeleble intimidad del hombre con la mar y familiarizándoles con la grandeza y sinceridad de las lecciones que constantemente el océano les proporciona.

 Cuando finalice este Crucero de instrucción, ellos estarán preparados para cumplir las funciones que la marina les demanda, en sintonía con los cambios que el progreso mundial exige. Se requiere de personal comprometido con el desarrollo de la Armada y dispuesto a asumir permanentes desafíos de toda índole, con el propósito de lograr los objetivos que la política de defensa requiere para resguardar nuestra soberanía.

Este buque, por la variedad de su gente, es también una pequeña muestra de nuestro país, que se ubica en el extremo sur de América, donde el desierto más árido del mundo convive con extensos bosques, lagos, volcanes, glaciares, y territorios insulares, como el archipiélago Juan Fernández e Isla de Pascua, además de nuestro Territorio Chileno Antártico.

Marinos preparados para el futuro, bien asentados sobre la tradición, son la garantía de una Armada mejor, y la promesa de un Chile querido más grande y próspero.

You are cordially welcome aboard the Chilean Navy's Training Ship "Esmeralda", ambassador of the seas and renowned sailing vessel. She received this name on behalf of the old corvette 'Esmeralda' commanded by our leading naval hero, Commander Arturo Prat.

The "Esmeralda" has honorably and efficiently kept fulfilling her significant mission of completing the training of Naval Officers and Crew members recently graduated from their respective Academies, tempering their spirit through their inner and perennial contact with the sea and acquainting them with the highest lessons the ocean never fails to teach us.

Upon the completion of this training cruise, all her new officers and crew members will be ready to carry out the missions the Navy requires in concert with the changes the modern world demands. We strive to create young men and woman committed to the development of the Navy and willing to assume all kinds of challenges with the sole purpose of achieving the objectives defined in our defense policy in order to protect our country's sovereignty.

This ship for the variety of her members is also a small sample of our country, located in the southern cone of Latin America, with the driest desert of the world in the north as well as extensive forests and lakes in the south; volcanoes and glaciers in the mountains, and overseas territories such as the Juan Fernandez Archipelago and the Easter Island, apart from the Chilean Antarctic Territory.

Sailors trained for the future and endowed with a solid tradition will be the strongest guarantee of a better Navy and the surest promise of a greater and prosperous beloved Chile.
